Initiating Change
The sixth stage of the competitive cycle is initiating change in response to adaptive challenge. As an organization moves through a competitive cycle, the goal is to maintain the highest level of competitive advantage. During the cycle, the organization must respond to ordinary adaptive challenge through incremental change. But as the competitive cycle progresses, incremental change eventually reaches the point of diminishing returns. In time, the competitive cycle runs its course and the organization must seek major or wholesale transformation to begin a new competitive cycle.
